Updates regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19)

Getaround was founded on the concept of community, with a mission to empower people with a better way to move through carsharing. Now, as the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to considerably impact the neighbourhoods and cities we serve, we take our role in supporting our communities more seriously than ever.

Supporting those who need it most

The safety of our community is our highest priority. In accordance with the instructions of the government and local health authorities, we’ve asked customers to limit their trips to only the essential, whether with Getaround or other modes of transport. We’re aware that increased driver cancellations will affect your earnings, but we must prioritise our community’s health and safety.

For those who must travel and need a car, we will continue to provide our service to the best of our abilities.

For those who must travel and need a car, we will continue to provide our service to the best of our abilities. In the cities where we operate, customers can search for, book, and unlock Getaround Connect cars with the app, and remain entirely autonomous during pickup and return.

To help minimise the spread of the virus, we strongly encourage you to clean your car between rentals as often as possible, following hygiene and safety guidelines to protect yourself and others:

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces. That includes the steering wheel, gear shift, dashboard, and keys.

Wash your hands with soap and water before and after getting into the car. Avoid touching your mouth, eyes, and nose until you’ve washed your hands.

Offer disinfectant gel and cleaning wipes if possible. Leave some in your car to encourage drivers to use them.

To remind drivers to follow good hygiene practices while using your car, you can also opt to print out the one-page flyer available here and place it on the dashboard or in the glovebox.

We understand that some owners would prefer not to share their cars during this uncertain time. If that’s the case, you can cancel any upcoming bookings free of charge.

What we’re doing to keep you safe

We’re taking extra precautions to help ensure the health and safety of our community of drivers and owners, including:

  • Waiving cancellation fees. If your car has upcoming bookings that you’d like to cancel, you can do so directly in the app or in your owner dashboard, free of charge. See our help centre article for more information.

  • Suspending Getaround Connect installations. For your safety and that of our operations team, we’ve postponed all appointments to install or uninstall Getaround Connect devices until further notice.

  • Car quarantine protocols. If we’re informed that your car has been in contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus, we will notify you immediately. Your car will then need to be deactivated, quarantined for 4 days, or cleaned with a proof of cleaning before being reactivated.

  • Staying alert and prepared. Our team will continue to monitor the latest alerts and advisories in the areas we serve to ensure we are taking the appropriate precautions and adapting our service in line with recommendations from the authorities.

Rest assured that our focus remains on meeting your needs while keeping our communities ‑ and our Getaround employees ‑ safe. If you’re trying to get in touch with us, we ask for your patience and understanding that our customer support team may take longer than usual to respond.

As always, thank you for being a valued part of our carsharing community. We hope you and your loved ones stay healthy, and thank you for doing your part to keep our communities safe.
